Flooring FAQ: Answers to Common Flooring Questions

First step is to come into our showroom and tell us about your project.  We will select samples for you to see based on the usage of your home (kids, pets, etc) as well as your budget.  We have over 35 years of experience not only selling the products but installing them as well.  We will help and guide you through the whole process.

We sell residential carpet, waterproof wood, engineered wood, luxury vinyl plank and tile, engineered stone, ceramic and porcelain tile, area rugs and runners.  We also have access to specialty products such as rubber/sports flooring, cork, and commercial carpet tile and hard surfaces.  We have 100s of samples in our showrooms to select from.  And if you don’t see exactly what you are looking for we can research other options with companies we have relationships with.

Yes.  You will have to tell us how much material you will need for your project.  We sell in full cartons only for hard surfaces.  There are no returns, refunds, or exchanges on material only orders.  Manufacturer warranties are null and void, as the material is not being installed by a certified Sheppard’s installer.  100% payment is needed at time of the order.

No.  Sheppard’s will only install material that is purchased from us.

Yes!  Tell us a bit about the use of the space (kids, pets, forever home or plan on selling soon), what your ideas are and we can point you in the direction of what product would be best for your situation that fits your budget.

Yes!  We believe in sending the full size samples home for you to borrow as long as you need.  Colors will look different from our showroom to your home. We recommend looking at them during the day (cloudy and sunny conditions), at night with artificial light.  Move them around the room and live with them for a couple days.  If the samples you selected aren’t right - figure out what you don’t like about them.  Too light, too dark, not enough character, etc.  Then bring them back to the store and we can look for others.

We can order free color samples of any carpet.  We can have them sent to the showroom for you to pick up or directly to your home.  This helps make the selection process easier. 

Yes.  Once you have made a selection we will set up an appointment to come to your home and measure and look at your project.  We will email you an estimate based on your exact product and space.  For over 30 years we have a keen sense of estimating jobs based on efficiency of the products, making sure there is minimal waste.

All of our installers have been installing for many years with us, have their workmanship routinely inspected and are rewarded for continuing their education at installation workshops. If there is ever a question or concern feel free to reach out to us.

Yes we can!  We can remove and dispose of your current carpet, pad and staples or hard surface flooring. You are welcome to do your own removal and disposal to help reduce costs. 

We will happily move your furniture and tables. We do ask that you move the smaller items, as well as any breakable/valuable items.  Beds should be stripped of all linens and pillows. If you would like to move your own furniture, we ask if you are having carpet installed the rooms/areas (including closets) need to be completely empty.  If you are having a hard surface installed the furniture can be shuffled as needed.

Unfortunately, we do not unhook or reconnect any electronics, such as TVs, computers, speakers, etc.  That will need to be done by you before the scheduled installation date, and re-connected when the floor is done.

Our experienced installers can repair almost anything, from carpet to vinyl to ceramic. Occasionally, things are beyond repair, and we can fully explain your options. 

We have installed outdoor carpet on concrete stairs, landings and ramps, carpet on boats, pontoons and rafts, RVs and camper vans.

We do not sand or refinish hardwood, epoxy coating, stain concrete, or remove asbestos.
